Hunt Country
The country, as now constituted, has existed since Mr. Powell's death, when W.J. Buckley, with Mr. Morris of Coomb as Deputy Master, purchased the Maesgwynne pack, which he added to his own, the Penllergaer, and joined the two countries which he hunted at his own cost until he resigned in 1898. In 1904 the upper portion of the country was lent to Captain Spence Jones, of Pantglas (See Baily's of 1907-08 and earlier); this was resumed in 1908 when Captain Spence Jones gave up. During the Master's absence overseas from 1939, the Hunt was carried on until 1942, when a nucleus pack consisting of the foundation strains was put out to walk. A few litters were bred. Hunting was resumed in 1946 on the Master's return from service, with a small pack kennelled, for reasons of economy, at Castell Gorfod. Only three-quarters of the country was hunted owing to shortage of hounds, and a neighbouring pack was invited to meet at Carmarthenshire fixtures east of Carmarthen.
